Alpha Osman Timbo

Alhaji Alpha Osman Timbo is a seasoned educationist, labour relations expert, and sports administrator with decades of experience contributing to Sierra Leone’s human capital and institutional development.

Born in Rokulan, Sanda Tendaren Chiefdom, Bombali District, he began his academic journey at the Bombali District Education Committee Primary School before progressing to St. Francis Secondary School, Makeni, and later Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School in Freetown. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, Law, and Philosophy from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, where his multidisciplinary training laid a strong foundation for leadership in education, labour relations, and public advocacy.

Alhaji Timbo is widely respected for his long-standing commitment to education and workers’ welfare. He served as Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Teachers’ Union (SLTU), where he played a pivotal role in advocating for teachers’ professional dignity, improved working conditions, and strengthened dialogue between educators and national institutions. His work contributed to policy engagement, labour negotiations, and the advancement of collective representation within the education sector.

Beyond education and labour, Alhaji Timbo has made significant contributions to sports administration, particularly football development in Sierra Leone. He previously served as Chairman of the Sierra Leone National Premier League and is currently Chairman of Mighty Blackpool Football Club, one of the country’s most historic football institutions. Through these roles, he has supported governance reforms, youth development, and the use of sports as a platform for social inclusion and national cohesion.
